Care
Any moisture or humidity will eventually turn all silver jewelry
dark gray. Leaving your jewelry in the bathroom or out on your
dresser on a humid day will hasten the tarnishing process. Following these care instructions will allow you to enjoy your
jewelry for a long time. Unlike sterling silver, fine silver
takes much longer to tarnish and will develop a vintage patina
over time. Pieces can be gently soaked in a mild solution of
warm water with a tablespoon of Ivory Liquid Soap in a bowl for
thirty minutes and then gently brushed with a soft toothbrush
and thoroughly dried with a soft cloth. Never use a commercial
jewelry cleaning solution or ultrasonic cleaner because it will
eat your pearls and softer gemstones. Each time you take off
your jewelry, it is important to wipe it with a soft cloth and
put it away in a zip-lock bag. An anti-tarnish strip in the
zip-lock bag will also help retard the tarnishing process.
Special Handling
My work is well made but very delicate, fine jewelry. Like your
grandmother’s pearls, it should be the last thing you put on and
the first thing you take off and put away carefully. It is
special occasion jewelry that isn’t meant to stand up to
everyday wear and abuse, or excessive handling. It needs to be
stored and cleaned properly, and cared for like a dear friend. If it gets caught on a button or you tug at it impatiently it
might tear. I always try to repair my pieces, but sometimes they
can’t be saved. Please don’t yank it off at the end of a fun
night and throw it on your bathroom vanity. If your piece has a
clasp, please use it as intended to put jewelry on and off.
Please do not yank it over your wrist or head and then be upset
when it finally breaks.
